Walter, Keeper of the Forest, was born in 1037 at Pembroke, Wales or Stanwell, Middlesex, England and he died in 1086.  Walter's first wife was Gwladus Verch Rhiwallon, daughter of the Prince of North Wales.  Walter was not the Constable of Windsor as Windsor was a royal forest until 1066 when WIlliam I started construction of Windsor Castle.  At the time of the Survey in 1086, Walter held a compact group of manors as tenant-in-chief of the King in the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Middlesex and Surrey.  He also held Winchfield in Hampshire from Chertsey Abbey and a royal manor and some woodlands at Windsor.

Pricilla was born in 1741 at Bedford, Westchester, NY, USA and she died in 1770 at Kentucky, USA.  She married her cousin John Woolsey III on November 20, 1761 at Marlboro, Ulster, NY, USA.

Pricilla and John had the following children:

(1) John Woolsey IV was born on 22 February 1763 at Marlborough, Ulster Co., NY and died on 31 August 1842 at Clarksville, Red River Co., Republic of Texas.  He married Mary Gilbert on 14 June 1787 at Greene Co., TN.

 

VIII.  John WOOLSEY IV (1763-1842)  m Mary GILBERT (b. 1765)

John Woolsey was born on 22 February 1763 at Marlborough, Ulster Co., NY and died on 31 August 1842 at Clarksville, Red River Co., TX.  He married Mary Gilbert on 14 June 1787 at Greene Co., TN.  By 1810, John is found on the census in the Big Bay area of Southern Illinois (Family #946).  He moved to the Arkansas Territory, living in Hempstead Co., AR.  A bill of sale in Hempstead Co. Deeds Book B pp. 255-256, dated 9 December 1838 shows that John sold his household goods to his son Samuel.  In return, Samuel was to provide his father with comfortable clothing and nourishment during his lifetime.  John applied for land in TX and was granted 372 acres in 1839, in Red River County.

John Woolsey died in Red River Co. on 31 August 1842.  Goodspeed 1889 Washington Co., AR states that "John, Woolsey, grandfather of William Thompson Woolsey, settled in Hempstead Co. after serving in the War of 1812.  He scouted Indians and on one of his expeditions was shot at nine times, the balls passing through his shirt sleever without injuring his person.  He died in Texas at the ripe old age of 82 (really 79)."

(1) Samuel Gilbert Woolsey who was born on 20 January 1794 and died on 14 December 1871 at Farmington, Washington Co., AR.  He married Mathilda Thompson on 11 January 1810 .

Samuel was born on 20 January 1794 and died on 14 December 1871 at Farmington, Washington Co., AR.  He married Mathilda Thompson on 11 January 1810 in Randolph Co., IL.  Mathilda was born on 20 January 1794 in Kentucky and died on 14 December1871 in Farmington, Washington Co., AR.

William was born on 21 May 1811 in Randolph Co., IL and died on 30 August 1894 in West Fork, Washington Co., AR.  He married Elvira Davidson on 12 November 1834 in Washington Co., AR.  Elvira was born in 1815 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., AR. and died in 1850 in Washington, Co., AR.

(1) Elizabeth Caroline Woolsey was born on 29 July 1846 in Wyman, Washington Co., AR and died on 21 March 1910 in the same location. She married Benjamin Franklin Little on 13 November 1870 in West Fork, Washington Co., AR.  Benjamin was born on 13 September 1839 in Shelbyville, Bedford Co., TN and died on 22 February 1909 in Wyman, Washington Co., AR.

Elizabeth was born on 29 July 1846 in Wyman, Washington Co., AR and died on 21 March 1910 in the same location. She married Benjamin Franklin Little on 13 November 1870 in West Fork, Washington Co., AR.  Benjamin was born on 13 September 1839 in Shelbyville, Bedford Co., TN and died on 22 February 1909 in Wyman, Washington Co., AR.

Elizabeth and Benjamin had the following children:

(1) Emily Little was born on 10 January 1878 in Goshen, Washington Co., AR and died on 3 April 1957 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR.  She married William Ryder Sweetser on 21 May 1896 in Goshen, AR.  William was born on 13 December 1871 in Oak Park, Cook Co., IL and died on 26 February 1924 in Rochester (Mayo Clinic), Olmstead Co., MN.

Emily was born on 10 January 1878 in Goshen, Washington Co., AR and died on 3 April 1957 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR.  She married William Ryder Sweetser on 21 May 1896 in Goshen, AR.  William was born on 13 December 1871 in Oak Park, Cook Co., IL and died on 26 February 1924 in Rochester (Mayo Clinic), Olmstead Co., MN.

Emily and William had the following children:

(1) Mae Josephine ("Tude") Sweetser was born on 18 February 1897 at Wyman, Washington County, AR and died on 30 March 1983 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.  She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fayetteville, AR.

(2) Royce ("Pete") Sweetser was born on 6 September 1899 at Wyman, Washington County, AR and died on 29 May 1946 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.  He married Mary Belle McKenzie Price around 1920 and Gene Stewart around 1944.

(3) Albert (Jack) Hart Sweetser was born on 9 January 1902 at Goshen, Washington County, AR and died on 1 May 1969 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.  He is buried at Baptist Ford Cemetery, Greenland, AR.  Albert married Alma Velda Sutton on 26 September 1922 in Washington County, AR.

(4) Gilbert Benjamin Sweetser was born on 19 July 1938 at Prairie Grove, Washington County, AR and died on 16 July 1938 at Prairie Grove, Washington County, AR.  He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.

(5) Mildred Lillian Sweetser was born on 20 January 1907 at Goshen, Washington County, AR and died on 28 February 1961 at Little Rock, Pulaski County, AR and is buried at Roselawn Cemetary in Little Rock, AR.  She married Frank Bruder on 26 December 1930 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.

(6) Jessie Sadie Sweetser was born on 17 June 1909 at Goshen, Washington County, AR and married Orbra Jack Carson on 17 May 1932 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR.

(7) Hazel Hildred Sweetser was born on 28 November 1911 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR and married Carl Lee Bridenthal on 19 February 1936 at Prairie Grove, Washington County, AR.

(8) Eliene Little Sweetser was born on 17 February 1916 at Fayetteville, Washington County, AR and married Doyle Edwin Morrison on 6 June 1936 at the same location.
